Zenqaoui en Pelisplus. In Algeria, football supporters’ chants are music in their own right. And since 2019, by mixing them with raï and rap, artists and producers have given birth to zenqaoui, a hugely popular musical genre. Thanks to it, its singers make their sometimes politically engaged lyrics resonate beyond the stadiums, the birthplaces of modern protest in Algeria.
